In this original piece, a narrow city street disappears into the distance between softly colored buildings, while utility poles, tangled overhead wires, balconies, and little details of everyday life give the scene its unmistakable sense of place.

The scene is first drawn by hand in pen and ink, then delicately washed with watercolor. Soft blues, warm ochres, faded pinks and greens lend the painting the wonderful feeling of a page from an artist's travel sketchbook—a fleeting view captured while wandering through the city.

Martin completes each painting with a frame he handcrafts from old, reclaimed, weathered wood. Knots, nail holes, stains, worn edges, variations in color, and other charming imperfections are intentionally preserved. Each frame has its own history and character, making it every bit as individual as the artwork it surrounds.

The original pen-and-ink watercolor measures a mere 4" x 6" and is mounted to hardboard for stability. With its handcrafted reclaimed-wood frame, the piece measures approximately 6 1/4" x 8" overall. A sawtooth hanger on the back makes it ready to hang.

Small in size but full of character, this one-of-a-kind original is a lovely little piece for anyone who loves Istanbul, Turkey, travel, old city streets, architectural sketches, or artwork that captures the feeling of wandering somewhere new.

https://clarycreativeco.myshopify.com/products/down-a-street-in-istanbul-original-pen-ink-watercolor-in-a-handcrafted-reclaimed-wood-frame
